Water-related disaster management using Virtual Reality (VR) technologies
active 2 months, 2 weeks agoHow to best communicate disaster scenarios to those responding to them, to those impacted by them and to those preparing for them?
The German film university Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf (FBKW) has developed a Virtual Reality disaster management application (TerrAResponse), focussing on water flow management and first responder training. TerrAResponse uses geo-data to deliver Virtual Reality models of selected local or regional areas, creating dynamic scenarios according to input data such as changes in water level or erection of physical barriers. TerrAResponse use cases include disaster forecast/simulation, improved awareness and enhanced understanding before or during telluric events. The application enables greater understanding of information by stakeholders via immersive narrative structures.
We are interested providing this application to potential partners who may be preparing a proposal under the current BSR calls.
TerrAResponse is based on the earlier oKat-SIM project, now in use by various German regional authorities.
