STREAMLINING SIRE 2.0 PIFs
active 1 week, 3 days agoOCIMF has integrated human factors into SIRE 2.0 seriously considering human factors to reach safety and environmental goals. Liveware (people/ human element) is a basic/ crucial element in the system of the vessel. People performance is among the most important factor for any operation performed onboard. The conditions which determine whether a persons shall succeed or fail are known as Performance Influencing Factors (PIFs). They influence the performance of tasks in the shipping industry. SIRE 2.0 suggests that will help users of the inspection programme understand and tackle PIFs by:
• Identifying objective conditions that go beyond the individual.
• Giving vessel operators and crew systematic opportunities to improve.
PIFs are found below:
1. Recognition of safety criticality of the task or associated steps.
2. Custom and practice surrounding use of procedures.
3. Procedures accessible, helpful, understood, and accurate for task.
4. Team dynamics, communications, and coordination with others.
5. Evidence of stress, workload, fatigue, time constraints.
6. Factors such as morale, motivation, nervousness.
7. Workplace ergonomics including signage, tools, layout, space, noise, light, heat, etc.
8. Human-machine interface (e.g., controls, alarms, etc.).
9. Opportunities to learn or practice.
The project shall aim at developing a pre-inspection kit for shipping companies to help them maximize the PIFs positive impact and streamline the human element performance with preparation and systematic work towards the above directions. The project may include an AI solution as well and shall be ideally developed into an app available for the crew onboard.
