I work as an Associate professor and leader of Organic Functional Materials (OFM) team at the Research Unit of Sustainable Chemistry in the University of Oulu. Various industrial and agricultural leftovers can be utilized in the production of biochemicals with decreased carbon footprint. Our research team focuses on the development of novel biomass-based chemicals and materials such as furfural-based monomers, resins, and thermoplastic polymers to replace the currently used fossil-based materials. By considering and taking care of recycling aspects at the end-of-use, we can create concepts which combine both biobased and circular economy aspects.
