  • Johanna changed the description of the project idea Project Idea logo of Flip-EC: Flipped Energy Concept to Flip Climate ChangeFlip-EC: Flipped Energy Concept to Flip Climate Change from "Are you a municipality, educational organisation or an energy agency interested in involving schools and school communities in the energy transition process? We are looking for partners in order to implement energy efficiency measures schools and to raise awareness for sustainable and future-oriented actions among pupils, teachers, other school staff and beyond.

As educational institutions, schools have an important responsibility towards future generations and future decision-makers. The project Flip-EC closes the gap between existing knowledge and concrete options for action by bringing together all the players required for a consistent energy optimisation of school buildings. In fact, the building stock remains one of the biggest energy consumers and contributors to climate change. Buildings owned by local administrations are no exception and schools constitute a significant part of public buildings. Flip-EC will develop an energy-saving toolkit in order to involve the relevant stakeholders and target groups in the school community. The innovative pedagogical approach of the "flipped classroom method" will be used to enable students to take responsibility themselves while still at school and become active participants in the energy transformation process at their school and beyond. Didactic material will be jointly developed, tested and disseminated. School staff are provided with the necessary thematic and technical support in the area of energy management. Joint implementation creates self-efficacy, promotes the emergence of new ideas and arouses interest in taking responsibility for one's own actions in the future and possibly also in professions that are needed for the energy transition.

    Planned partnership:
Hansestadt Lübeck, eduversum (publisher and educational agency) as well as other local authorities (cities and regions), energy agencies, environmental organisations, associations related to education.

Possible target groups: municipalities, inter-municipal, regional, educational and higher education organisations, students, teachers, school staff, school directors, authorities responsible for schools, research institutes cooperating with schools." to "Are you a municipality, educational authority, educational organisation or an energy agency inter-ested in involving schools and school communities in the energy transition process? We are looking for partners to jointly develop a concept aimed at school decision-makers.

A lot of materials and measures to save energy for schools in the Baltic Sea region and beyond (didactic material for teachers, ideas for project weeks etc.) are available and is being used in school contexts. There are certainly many active schools, climate-conscious teachers and school directors as well as engaged pupils, but they can only take influence within their reach of competences. The big-level decisions are taken by the building owners, i.e. local public authorities. Nevertheless, the schools pave the way for young people to develop a sense of duty and to promote sustainable action and transport it into the future.

The Flip-EC concept bridged the gap between public local authorities which have an important responsibility towards schools, as they are the owner of the school buildings and are therefore the competent decision-making body to implement energy-saving measures related to the building envelope and condition. Flip-EC will provide knowledge and concrete options for action by bringing together all the players required for a consistent energy optimisation of school buildings. Public local authorities’ staff are provided with the necessary thematic and technical support in the area of energy management at schools. Additionally, the importance of participation processes is inte-grated into the concept, which combines the joint implementation of energy-saving measures with and within the schools, the development of new ideas and the participation of various stakeholders.
