The preliminary purpose of the project is to enhance how transportation infrastructures are designed, managed and followed up through the development of a connected, multi-model, and immersive decision-support environment. The project aims to the creation of a decision environment where manufacturers, institutions, and all the potential stakeholders can engage (co-located or remotely) to analyze the impact of alternative ‘solution strategies’ along the lifecycle of transportation infrastructure. This will allow the assessment of the economic, social, and environmental sustainability impact of the introduction of new technologies (e.g., battery-driven equipment, ammonia-based engines) through scenario simulations to be used as a support for planning and design investment in new infrastructure. The project will encompass the development of approaches based on AI and IoT granting access to operational data to assure a sufficient level of reliability and the continuous updates of the simulation models used as input in the decision environment.
The host institution (BTH-Sweden) will bring to the project expertise in the field of Mechanical Engineering concerning Model-driven Decision support, Systems Engineering, Agent-based/Discrete Event simulation, and digital twinning. The ideal partners for the project are companies, institutions, and universities with expertise/interest in:
• Infrastructure planning and/or execution
• Circularity and sustainability assessment
• Extended Reality modeling and visualization
• Human decision-making dynamics in groups
• Human cognitive behaviors in decision-making
• System Engineering and modular system design
