The Sea Starts on Land – Changing Habits to Protect the Baltic Sea
active 21 hours, 18 minutes agoWe are looking for partners and a lead partner to raise awareness about the issues facing the Baltic Sea and help reduce marine pollution.
It is no secret that the Baltic Sea is one of the most polluted seas in the world. For years, we have been working to increase environmental awareness through hikes, educational programs, and clean-up initiatives, engaging tens of thousands of people—most of them children and young people. However, despite all efforts, new waste continues to enter the sea from land, proving that clean-ups alone are not enough. Many of these issues stem from people’s awareness and habits.
We aim to develop an effective method and implement pilot activities to help people understand how their daily choices impact the health of the Baltic Sea. To achieve this, we plan to use innovative solutions, including digital platforms, mobile applications, and interactive online environments that make environmental education more engaging and help integrate sustainable habits into everyday life.
Our goal is to strengthen people’s cultural connection to the Baltic Sea so that they feel a sense of responsibility and a desire to protect it. Additionally, we want to expand the project’s impact internationally by collaborating with other Baltic Sea region countries, sharing best practices, and developing joint solutions with long-term effects.
We are seeking partners from universities and research institutions, as well as businesses whose activities directly or indirectly impact the marine environment (such as tourism, fisheries, and industry), and local governments.
