The green and blue cities of the Baltic Sea Region
active 11 months, 2 weeks agoThe aim of the project is to reduce the pressure exerted on the environment by urban areas and to better adapt urban areas to the progressing climate change by improving their resistance to periodic problems related to the increasingly frequent torrential rains and, on the other hand, droughts causing water shortages.
The aim of the project will be achieved through measures to increase the absorptive capacity of urban areas and the development of green and blue infrastructure in cities and urban areas. The project provides for pilot activities related to the reduction of surface runoff, including by supporting the initiatives of cities and their residents increasing rainwater retention instead of introducing them to the rainwater sewage system.
As part of the project, the instruments will be provided to promote the management of rainwater by cities and their residents – rainwater management on the property by co-financing rainwater tanks, wells, absorbent sinkholes, and home rain-gardens. An additional element of the project will be the exchange of experiences, study visits to project partners and educational activities for the city’s inhabitants.
