Green energy self-sufficient public infrastructure
active 4 days, 3 hours agoPublic infrastructure uses a considerable amount of electricity. With ongoing green transition and climate change it is important to build a public infrastructure that a) is energy-efficient – does not use unnecessary amounts of energy, and b) is self-sufficient – uses exclusively renewable energy in a way that public infrastructure is completely self-sufficient from energy grid.
Project proposes to design and test public infrastructure that is combined with energy-efficient renewable energy production devices and is completely self-sufficient in terms of energy production and use. More specifically project aims to combine new public infrastructure with renewable energy sources (solar power, wind power, energy storage systems, smart grids and microgrids, hydropower, piezoelectric, etc) in a way that all public infrastructure energy needs are covered by same renewable energy creation devices installed to it. This combination would allow for reduced carbon emissions, lower operating costs once the initial investment is made, energy independence, infrastructure resilience and diversification of energy sources.
More specifically Viimsi municipality wants to build innovative small stage for public events and leisure activities that will be using only solar power that is collected from its roof. Power needed for lightning and small concerts will be provided by solar panels and energy storage systems. If stage is not used for small concerts, etc it will be part of park’s public space and electricity gathered will be used as public charging station for electrical scooter, mobile phones etc.
Looking for following partners: 1-2 municipalities (or organizations responsible for constructing public infrastructure) that are interested in building public infrastructure that runs exclusively on locally produced green energy. Public infrastructure designed and constructed during the project should not exceed 500 000 euros in price. 1-2 organizations to help with communication and dissemination of results. 1-2 organizations to help with design of innovative technical solutions (research agencies, universities, etc).
If you are interested in this idea then please contact Viimsi Municipality (Estonia):
