GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SYSTEM of WAVE ENERGY CONVERSION: BALTIC SEA REGION (GISWEC:BSR)
active 2 years agoRenewable electric power generation for vessels and nearshore infrastructure is a key part of reducing the pollution and the greenhouse gas emissions from maritime sector and reaching the EU climate objectives. One of the problems that hinder the achievement of that is that we do not use the energy of Baltic Sea (BS) waves for electricity. After analyzing the development of other, more successful renewable energy sources, we came to the conclusion that one of the missing factors is the presence of a virtual environment that allows to see energy resource hot spots close to the coast. Our project will look for the most suitable places for the production of electricity from the sea waves in the BSR (Baltic Sea Region) and put them on the map. Since the resource of sea waves is very limited in the BSR, first of all, our project will help small infrastructure nodes such as islands, households on the coast or lighthouses. Many now have no electricity connection and are forced to rely on easily transportable fossil fuels. These groups do not have the opportunity to conduct expensive research. Our project will bring the possibilities of using wave energy to generate electricity into free access. Also, this project will help enterprises building an electrical network accurately and quickly calculate the possibilities of using sea wave energy, as well as developers of wave energy converters.
We are looking for partners where we can contribute as associated partner in order to promote or develop a toolkit for Wave Energy Converter (WEC) developers, coastal infrastructure including consumers and decision makers we could participate in pilots, or like-minded or test groups.
