Entrepreneurial Resilience: Coping Mechanisms in Times of Uncertainty
active 5 days agoThe past several years has been marked by significant global disruptions, commencing with the COVID-19 pandemic and further exacerbated by the ongoing war in Ukraine. These events have created a prolonged period of uncertainty and volatility, profoundly impacting individuals and businesses worldwide. Small business owners often face heightened vulnerability in such turbulent times due to their limited resources and operational scale. Understanding how these entrepreneurs navigate and persevere through these challenges is crucial for fostering a robust and adaptable entrepreneurial ecosystem in the Baltic Sea Region.
This project aims to investigate the coping mechanisms employed by small business owners to maintain and build resilience in the face of uncertainty. Focus would be on a micro-entrepreneurship as a specific group of businesses often the most vulnerable in times of instability.
Last year Saldus Municipality launched the pilot activity in premises owned by municipality. Abandoned Satini school premises were transformed into a small business community centre called “SATINI WORKSHOP”. Pilot activity was successful as all lease contracts are now set for a two-year term, reflecting a successful transition from a testing action into a sustainable long-term initiative. We would like to further support micro-entrepreneurs’ community, which is in a rural area, believing that strong social network is one of factors giving positive effect during the times of continuous uncertainty. This community (and similar to it in other partners organizations) could serve as a research platform for the purposes of the project.
We are looking for partners from other municipalities around Baltic Sea as well as NGO’S and organizations supporting entrepreneurship. Scientists are very welcomed who could give valuable research-based knowledge on micro-entrepreneurship.
