DroneHarmonize
active 4 days, 2 hours agoThe DroneHarmonize project aims to enhance the preparedness of Baltic Sea Region (BSR) cities for inter-city and intra-regional unmanned cargo drone operations by developing a common framework for Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM) and U-space systems. The project addresses the challenge of fragmented UTM/U-space development across the BSR, which hinders the potential of cargo drones for faster, greener, and more accessible logistics.
Key Objectives:
• Assess the current state of UTM/U-space development, regulatory landscapes, cargo drone potential (including for remote/archipelago areas), and city preparedness in the BSR.
• Develop a common conceptual framework and strategic roadmap for standardizing and harmonizing UTM/U-space services, data exchange, and technical requirements for cargo drone operations.
• Define and validate practical cargo drone use cases relevant to the BSR (e.g., SME market access, archipelago deliveries) and co-design harmonized Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs), focusing on inter-UTM/U-space handovers.
• Build the capacity of public authorities and stakeholders to plan for and manage harmonized cargo drone logistics through knowledge transfer and training.
Main Expected Outputs and Results:
• BSR UTM/U-space & Cargo Drone Readiness Assessment Report: An analysis of the current situation, challenges, and opportunities for cargo drones in the BSR.
• DroneHarmonize Framework & Roadmap: A strategic document with common principles for UTM/U-space services, data exchange, and a phased implementation plan.
• Standardized Operational Procedure (SOP) Blueprints: Practical guidelines for specific BSR cargo drone use cases, focusing on cross-border operations.
• DroneHarmonize Capacity Building Toolkit: Resources for city planners and transport authorities, including guidelines, checklists, and training modules.
• Increased knowledge and a common understanding among BSR stakeholders regarding harmonized cargo drone operations.
• An established transnational cooperation network.
• Enhanced capacity of public authorities to integrate smart, green cargo drone logistics.
The project aligns with the Interreg BSR Programme’s “Smart Green Mobility” priority, aiming to harmonize mobility systems across borders and apply digital solutions. It will focus on collaborative development of frameworks and capacity building rather than costly physical pilot implementations. The project seeks to deliver practical and durable outputs, ensuring sustainability through open access to deliverables, capacity building, network formation, and policy recommendations.
