DAO for RURBAN
active 1 year, 11 months agoThe current pandemic, energy, and environmental crisis calls for more resilient governance that provides capabilities for faster adaptation to changing situations at local and community-based levels. The very top-down governance has shown limitations for consideration of the unique conditions and capacities of individuated/local community stakeholders, i.g., the refugee crisis in Sweden.
Small communities based on shared ideology, most often related to ecological living, and cultural associations, cooperative ecological farmings test new forms of democracy, self-reliance/ organization, and governance. However, the isolation within the rurban (Rural and urban) region, limited resources, and lack of adaptable economic systems of these communities makes them vulnerable to unpredictable challenges, such as the energy crisis and pandemic. Thus, in spite of their commitment to ecological and sustainable living within the community, these communities might be unsure how to synergistically support and be supported by urban and rural areas surrounding them, promoting circular economy, energy efficiency, and alternative economy for green transit.
A decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) entity is a blockchain-backed means of grassroots organization and governance. It removes centralized power and promotes collaboration and consensus. It allows sophisticated ways of voting and refined methods of democracy through smart contracts algorithmic structures and novel scalable consensus mechanisms.
This project proposes to pilot study diverse forms of self-organized communities within the Baltic Sea region, in the application of DAO to promote decentralized and self-organized economy, distribution of resources, and increase the overall resilience of the community by pinpointing the less-sustainable elements and pain points and gradually implementing new circular systems under a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) that disrupts traditional notions of organization, governance, ownership, and economics.
In its focus, DAO for a circular economy based on ecosystems services, not only based on natural resources but also the cultural resources and heritages lie to test;
1. A decentralized self-organized economy within the surrounding self-organized communities
2. Implementation of ecosystem services using DAO.
