Bio-Loop & Smart Energy Hub in Rural North
active 1 day, 1 hour agoThis project addresses the dual challenge of circular economy and clean energy transition in a sparsely populated northern region. Drawing on existing efforts the concept establishes a regional hub which facilitates the conversion of local biomass and waste streams into energy, materials and local value.
Key features:
• conduct a mapping of local biomass & industrial/waste streams and feasibility of energy conversion (bio-, biogas, hydrogen readiness);
• build a demonstration mini-hub that integrates circular material flows (side streams → materials reuse) with renewable energy production and storage;
• support municipalities and SMEs to develop local circular business models (e.g., shared material pools, industrial symbiosis, district heat/cold networks);
• integrate a “smart energy transition” learning platform accessible to regional stakeholders with international partners;
Impact: reduced fossil energy dependency, new jobs in circular bio-economy, improved self-sufficiency of remote communities, lowered emissions in line with climate-neutral society aims.
