safe and clean ocean
active 1 month, 2 weeks agoIf you look at the technological developments in the maritime sector in recent years, constant monitoring of the Baltic Sea region with regard to known and newly emerging dangerous objects is increasingly becoming the focus of feasibility. Keywords for such objects are: industrial waste (barrels, containers, plastic waste, etc.), ghost nets, ammunition remains, changes in the ecological area caused by climatic changes, sudden contamination from previously unobserved objects in the seabed, intentional sabotage activities, etc.
It is therefore proposed to subject particularly well-known or sensitive areas to constant surveillance using fixed or mobile platforms (ROVs/AUVs). The infrastructure required for this and the data coupling of the different systems would be the subject of a joint project. In addition, the underwater vehicles used should be able to record data from autonomous measuring stations and detect changes in the environment using images. The data collected in this way should be linked to existing data sets in order to derive danger monitoring (and the resulting (acute/long-term) danger prevention strategies) using statistical or CI methods. The resulting dangerous situations should be made available to the Baltic states via an internet platform in 24/7 mode.
What is new about the proposed project is that the focus is no longer on specific hazard classes, but rather on comprehensive hazard prevention using sensor composite technologies.
