Psychological safety for all. Safe and shared learning from traumatic maternity services events and
active 7 months, 2 weeks agoThis project aims to co-create new practical solutions for the common cross-border challenge of the safety of maternity services in BSR region. The project aims to target practical improvements in enhancing patient safety of maternity care services and the psychological safety of paramedics who will be facing more clients of maternity services, as well as patient safety events, in EU external border regions.
Suggestions:
i) To evaluate the role of traumatic maternity safety events for the healthcare professionals (midwives, doctors, paramedics) as second victims of the events
ii) To develop second victim support in healthcare curricula and programs for educational institutions related to maternal safety events (nurses, midwives, paramedics).
iii) To develop psychological safety second victim support programs and continuing education (including simulations) in healthcare organizations.
iv) To develop, implement, and evaluate second victim support interventions through simulation-based training.
The birth rate has continued to decline in South Karelia in Finland. In 2023 there were approximately 700 births at the central hospital of South Karelia Welfare County. The number of children born is lower than in 2022 which was 766 births. In South Karelia, the number of births has been decreasing since 2010. Already the welfare area takes care of births with an exception because South Karelia does not exceed the required number of births per year set by the Government.
Public care organizations from each country are mandatory.
