Donorbuilding platform – linking demolitions to new constructions
active 7 months, 1 week agoToday the construction sector in EU has the greatest consumption of raw materials and 40% of the CO2-emissions. Both raw-materials and CO2 emissions can be significantly reduced by reusing or recycling materials from demolitions in new construction. However, the trick is to get the material flow working. So far most solutions builds on the existing linear market structure, focusing on providing more secondary resources while the rest of the value chain continue business as usual.
The Donorbuilding Platform aims to disrupt business as usual, addressing the main challenge: that we need to start designing new buildings with the available resources. The idea is for building owners to add buildings for demolition in e.g. 3, 5 or 6 years to the platform. Then construction clients can then ask the architects to design a new building based on relevant donorbuildings.
This will solve several central issues for the circular flow of construction materials:
– The construction clients supply of reused/recycled materials for the new construction is secured: The right amounts in the right quality at the right time
– The resource mapping and the demolition of donorbuildings can be designed according to which elements and structures are to be reused or recycled for the new building
– The match in timing between demolition and construction reduces storage time and possibly extra storage and transport
Target groups: Building owners, construction clients, architects, construction- and demolition companies
